Antonio on Skippy’s new deal: “We trust him a lot”

Antonio Conte expressed his delight after Oliver Skipp signed a new contract at the Club that will run until 2027.

The young midfielder, 21, arrived at Spurs aged six, signed Academy forms at Under-9 level and has taken huge strides over the last few years, not least this season when, after the experience of a season’s loan at Championship title-winners Norwich City last term, he’d featured in 27 of our 33 matches before injury struck in January.

Antonio has spoken in glowing terms about ‘Skippy’ since arriving at the Club in November, and sees the Spurs fan - born and raised locally at Welwyn Garden City - as a key player for the present and future.

Speaking at his pre-Brentford press conference on Thursday afternoon, Antonio said: “I'm very happy for Skippy, because we're talking about a good player, a young player, a player from the Academy and you know very well the importance for this club in developing players from the Academy.

“In this squad we have Japhet Tanganga, Dane Scarlett, Harvey White is also improving a lot.

“I'm very happy for Skippy, because he’s not only a good player, but we are also talking about a fantastic guy. Unfortunately, he's having a bit of a problem with his injury, because in this moment he's not available. I know his frustration. I think this new contract shows him that we trust him a lot. He’ll be very important for the present and for the future of Tottenham. I'm delighted for him.”
