Nuno Espirito Santo has a few issues to deal with as we prepare to return to action at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday (12.30pm).
The international break hasn’t been kind to the Head Coach, with South American players Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez now isolating in Croatia after playing in World Cup qualifiers for Argentina and Colombia respectively. Nuno confirmed the trio are due to arrive back at the Club on 18 September.
Nuno also alluded to ‘the absence of some players’ at Selhurst Park, one of whom is Heung-Min Son, who picked up an injury on South Korea duty. “Sonny is not so well,” explained Nuno in his pre-match press conference. “Let’s wait and see. The doctors will make a proper diagnosis.”
We have a good squad. We have to make decisions and we are positive. We are ready to compete
Speaking to Spurs TV, Nuno gave us this team news. “We have the absence of the South American players and the absence of some players who arrived with problems from the international break. But we are ready to go. We have a good squad. We have to make decisions and we are positive. We are ready to compete.”
Asked if he could divulge any further information, Nuno smiled and replied: “No, not much more, maybe I’ll be giving info... I’m sure you understand!”
Returning to his press conference, Nuno explained further on Cristian, Davinson and Gio. “I can tell you they are in Croatia. That’s what we decided to do to avoid more problems. The solution was to try to get them to a country where after they can join the group. They are now working with sports science and a physio in Croatia.”
