Nuno Espirito Santo turned the spotlight on the players and staff after taking the first Barclays Premier League Manger of the Month award of the season.
Our new Head Coach, appointed in July, claimed the accolade after our perfect start to the campaign - three wins and three clean sheets against Manchester City, Wolves and Watford to sit proudly at the top of the early table.
Typically, Nuno had no intention of taking any plaudits. “It’s an award for the Club, for the staff, especially for the players, because they are the ones, they deserve immense credit since I arrived in the way they work, the way they are committed. They won the three games.”
Nuno gathered his staff together for the official photograph with the award, and told us: “That’s us, the spirit we have, and we must keep. Everybody should help. I should be thankful for each one of the staff, the work they have done, they way they’ve helped and received us since day one.”
Nuno was also told of these words from Eric Dier. “Nuno’s come in and had such a calming influence on the squad. I think he’s really brought a serenity to the group and around the training ground and matchdays. We really needed that.”
“This is the way we work, trying to always help the players,” Nuno responded. “That’s what we are here for, to help the players, to make them better, to make improvements.”
