Nuno previews Palace: “New dynamics... always tough”

It’s a new era at Palace - but Nuno Espirito Santo expects the same tough test at Selhurst Park as we return to Premier League action on Saturday (12.30pm).

Patrick Vieira is the new man in charge after Roy Hodgson’s four-year stint in south London. Hodgson’s teams were famously difficult to beat and having initially come into the job with Palace sitting bottom with seven defeats out of seven in 2017/18, he steered them to 11th, 12th, 14th and 14th again in his four seasons.

Palace have a defeat at Chelsea and draws against Brentford and West Ham so far under Vieira and impressed in the 2-2 at London Stadium last time out on 28 August - Conor Gallagher, on loan from Chelsea, scoring twice.

Nuno on Palace

“Roy Hodgson was manager of Palace for many, many years,” said Nuno after training on Friday. “They had a strong idea of the way they played, and the core of the squad was basically the same year after year.

“Things have changed. You can see different players coming in, new dynamics, but always a tough team because of the quality of their players.

“The Premier League is very tough, and this is a tough, tough match. Palace are a good team with a new manager, new ideas, and good players, but we are focussed on ourselves. We are ready to go, this is what I can say. We will compete.”
