Thu 02 September 2021, 22:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane struck again as England toppled Hungary 4-0 in World Cup qualifying on Thursday evening.

The striker and Three Lions skipper headed home Jack Grealish's cross to make it 2-0 on 63 minutes at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring on 55 minutes as England finally broke down the stubborn hosts. Harry Maguire (69) and Declan Rice (87) completed the scoring.

Victory made it four out of four in Group I and England are already five points clear on the road to Qatar 2022. Meanwhile Harry, who played the full 90 minutes, now has 39 goals in 62 caps. He's sixth on England's all-time list, just one behind Michael Owen.

Heung-Min Son couldn't add to his 27 goals in his 94th cap as South Korea were held to a goalless draw by Iran in Seoul on Thursday. That was the first game of Asia qualifying phase three where the top two from each group of five progress to Qatar. Sonny captained the team and completed the 90 minutes.

Davinson Sanchez played 90 minutes for Colombia in a 1-1 draw against Boliva in South American qualifying. After seven of their 18 qualifiers, Colombia are fourth in the 10-team table - the top four go through to Qatar.

Pierluigi Gollini was an unused substitute as European champions Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by Bulgaria in World Cup qualifying Group C. Maksim Paskotsi was also on the bench as Estonia lost 5-2 at home to Belgium in Group E.

Elsewhere, Dane Scarlett scored from the penalty spot as England Under-19s beat Italy 2-0 in a friendly.

Wednesday's action

Matt Doherty and Troy Parrott suffered late heartbreak for the Republic of Ireland as Cristiano Ronaldo created history on Wednesday night. Matt played the full 90 as his side led 1-0 going into the final minute -  that's when Ronaldo struck, twice, to turn the game around and become the highest scorer in international football on 111. ROI are now fourth of five in Group A. That was cap number 21 for Matt, Troy remained on the bench.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set up Denmark's first goal in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Scotland at the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen. Pierre completed the full 90 on his 48th cap. Denmark top Group F with four wins out of four.

Hugo Lloris earned cap 130 as France were held 1-1 at home by Bosnia-Herzegovina in World Cup qualifying Group D. However, Les Bleus remain top. Steven Bergwijn was an unused substitute as the Netherlands drew 1-1 against Norway in Group G. In African qualifying, Pape Matar Sarr started as Senegal beat Togo 2-0. That was the first game in qualifying Group H, only the 10 group winners progress to the next stage.

Outside of World Cup qualifying, Ben Davies stayed on the bench as Wales drew 0-0 in a friendly against Finland in Helsinki. Young goalkeeper Isak Solberg started as Norway Under-19s beat Poland 2-1 while Jamie Donley came off the bench to score a last-minute penalty and the only goal of the game for Northern Ireland Under-19s against the Faroe Islands.
