We were saddened to hear the news of the recent passing of our 1950s half-back Alan Woods. He died yesterday at the age of 84.
Born in Dinnington, Yorkshire, in February 1937, Alan was an England Youth international who joined our junior ranks in June 1952 and was upgraded to full professional status in February 1954.
He made his Spurs debut at home to Manchester United later in the year and went on to make another five appearances that season.
Alan moved to Swansea Town in December 1956 and transferred to York City in July 1960, helping them to promotion to the Third Division in 1965. His son Neil played for Doncaster Rovers, Rangers, Ipswich and Grimsby.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
