Out of the frying pan and into the fire - after a tough night in Arnhem, Nuno Espirito Santo knows we can expect the same again when we take on West Ham at the London Stadium as we return to Premier League action on Sunday (2pm).
The Hammers beat Genk at home in the Europa League as we lost out 1-0 against Vitesse in a partisan atmosphere at the GelreDome in the Conference League on Thursday evening, but we’re a point above David Moyes’ men as we make the short trip to Stratford for what is always one of the most anticipated clashes of the season.
“A derby, a tough match, but we’ll be ready,” said Nuno. “West Ham are a very good team, the core of their team is there, David Moyes is doing a fantastic job and it’s going to be a tough game for us. It’s the Premier League and with all our energy we’ll be there.”
As for team news, it’s a case of 'as you were' ahead of this week’s trip to Vitesse. That means Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon will again be missing, while Nuno reported 'everybody is okay' in terms of the players who started in Sunday’s win at Newcastle and stayed behind to train ahead of West Ham.
Speaking at his post-match press conference in Holland, Nuno said: “The players who stayed behind have worked, everybody is okay, let’s see now if there are any issues with the players who played tonight (at Vitesse). I hope there is no nothing major. Ryan Sessegnon... there is no time frame yet, Matt Doherty probably next week, but Sess will take a little longer.”
