Harry nominated for Ballon d'Or

Fri 08 October 2021, 21:28|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane has been shortlisted for the 2021 men’s Ballon d'Or award.

Our home-grown striker is one of 30 names competing for the prize, which recognises the best player in the world. He was previously nominated in 2017 and 2018.

The 2020/21 campaign saw Harry secure his third Premier League Golden Boot after topping the charts with 23 goals. He also claimed the most assists in the division (14) and teamed up with Heung-Min Son for a record 14 goal combinations in a single Premier League season. He’s currently second on our list of all-time top scorers, having overtaken Bobby Smith earlier this year.

Presented annually since 1956 by France's weekly football magazine France Football, the Ballon d'Or – previously known as the European Footballer of the Year and the FIFA Ballon d'Or – was based on voting by football journalists until 2006. After 2007, coaches and captains of national teams were also given the right to vote.

Originally it was an award for players from Europe before being expanded in 1995 to include all players from any origin that have been active at European clubs. The award became a global prize in 2007 but was not given out in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s winner will be announced on 29 November at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
