Ahead of today's north London derby, we take a look through the key numbers behind the game (4.30pm kick-off).
Arsenal v Spurs
We come into this, the 202nd north London derby, unbeaten in our last five clashes against Arsenal in all competitions. To date, we have never gone on a run of six games without defeat against the Gunners, so there will be a chance for us on Sunday to make history.
A win at the Emirates would make it three back-to-back north London derby victories for us in the league for the first time in over 46 years, having not done so since October, 1974. Having already won this term’s home meeting between the sides 2-0, back in December, taking all three points in N5 would also give us our first league double over Arsenal since the 1992/93 season.
However, it is also worth noting that in Premier League history, only Everton v Liverpool (24) has finished as a draw more often than the north London derby (23). This match has also seen both teams get on the scoresheet more often in meetings than any other fixture in the competition (38 games).
Arsenal at the Emirates
Arsenal may have lost just one of their last seven Premier League home games, but they have already failed to win five matches at the Emirates this season - they last lost more home fixtures in a single season 26 years ago, during the 1994/95 campaign (6). The Gunners have also failed to score in three of their last five home games and in six such matches across the season so far - only in 1994/95 (7) and 1992/93 (8) have they failed to score in more home matches. Meanwhile, their current home points tally of 18 from their 13 games so far is their lowest at this stage of a season, again, since the 1994/95 campaign. They have, however, only lost two of their last 35 home league games against us - 3-1 in May, 1993, and 3-2 in November, 2010.
Jose v Arteta
No Arsenal manager has ever lost their first three north London derbies while no Spurs manager has ever won their first three, yet, on Sunday, both of those statistics could be shattered. With Jose Mourinho having won each of his first two games against Arsenal as our Head Coach, and Mikel Arteta having lost his first two against us as Arsenal’s, a victory for us this weekend would make history.
In his Premier League managerial career, Jose has lost just one of his 18 meetings with Arsenal (W9 D8) and has won four of his last five against the Gunners. Only against four other Premier League teams has Jose won more games in the competition than against Arsenal - Everton (11), West Ham (11), Crystal Palace (10) and West Brom (10).
Gunning for Arsenal
Harry Kane is the outright all-time highest goalscorer in the history of the north London derby, scoring 11 times against the Gunners in his Spurs career. He comes into this game in red-hot form having been directly involved in six goals in his last two games (four goals, two assists). Similar can be said for Gareth Bale, as he has contributed to six goals in his last four Premier League appearances (four goals, two assists) while he also enjoys a goal against the Gunners having scored five times against them in his Spurs career - the most he has scored against any side for us.
Meanwhile, another key component of our current front row, Heung-Min Son is also continuing to deliver in front of goal for us as he has been involved in three goals in his last three Premier League outings (three assists). Sonny also holds a strong recent record in north London derbies, having contributed to five goals in his last five games against Arsenal (three goals, two assists), and he has also scored and assisted in each of his last two appearances against the Gunners.
Notable numbers
We have won each of our last three Premier League games, scoring nine and conceding just once. We are also on our joint-best winning streak under Jose Mourinho since he became our Head Coach in November, 2019 having won each of our last five games. We haven’t won six matches in a row since November, 2018. Arsenal, meanwhile, have committed the least fouls in the Premier League this season with 249 yet, no side has been shown more red cards this year than the Gunners (5).
