We are delighted to announce the signing of Molly Bartrip.
The defender has signed a contract with the Club until 2023 and will wear the number 5 shirt for Spurs Women.
Molly returns to the club at which she began her footballing journey as a young player, having turned out for our Under-10s in the mid-2000s before going on to spend time in the youth systems at Charlton Athletic and Arsenal.
She has spent her entire senior career to date with fellow WSL side Reading, joining them in 2014 and going on to make more than 100 competitive appearances before leaving the Madejski Stadium at the end of last season.
Molly said: “I’m excited to join Spurs – it’s a fresh start for me and I’m really looking forward to meeting the players, staff and fans. I can’t wait to get to know everyone in pre-season and then look to start the season strongly. I was at Reading for a long time, I grew up as a person and a footballer there but now I’m ready to move on into a different direction. I’m so excited to start here because it’s brand new for me, I’m coming out of my comfort zone and embracing new challenges. I want to get better, I want to develop as a player and I think I’ve got an amazing opportunity to do that here. In terms of my career, in a way I feel like I’ve come full circle now – my first ever girls’ team was Tottenham, I loved it and it’s where I fell in love with the game if I’m honest. It was where I realised that I wanted to go on to become a professional footballer and to come back now, I’m so proud at how far Tottenham has come as a Club and I’m ready to give my all to hopefully help to take us to the next level.”
Head Coach Rehanne Skinner said: “Molly has played in the WSL for seven years – that amounts to a great deal of experience for somebody who is still young, having only just turned 25. Her defensive record was excellent last season, she’s a solid defender who works incredibly hard out of possession, is a committed and resilient person and is someone who is going to help us in our ambitions to keep driving the team forward and improve on where we were last year. She’ll be a real asset to us and I’m delighted that she has joined the squad.”
