Jose Mourinho reports that Sergio Reguilon will not be ready to face Wolfsberger AC in our UEFA Europa League round of 32, first leg in Hungary on Thursday evening (5.55pm UK).
The flying full-back has missed our last six matches after picking up an injury in training on 26 January and will not fly out with the squad to Budapest, where we take on the Austrian Bundesliga side at the new Puskas Arena.
Speaking in his press conference after training on Wednesday, Jose said: “No good news on Sergio, he’s not coming. No setback, just the process is not going as fast as initially we thought, but no setback. So, let’s see, weekend, next Europa League match on Wednesday, let’s see.”
Serge Aurier and Giovani Lo Celso also remain sidelined, and Jose later told Spurs TV that four younger players have been added to the squad.
“Serge, sadly, may be even more time than Sergio,” he said. “I would say that Sergio has some chances for Sunday, many chances for the second leg. I don’t believe Serge Aurier can do either of these two, and, of course, Gio is not there.
“The good thing is that in the Europa League we can have 12 players on the bench, so you travel with 23 and all of them are on the bench. That is a good opportunity for some of the kids, and there is always the chance they can play. Dennis Cirkin is selected, Dane Scarlett, and the first time for Marcel Lavinier and Jamie Bowden, which is good for them and good for the others, it gives them a window of hope. Even if they don’t play, it’s a great experience for them.”
