Shelina Zadorsky and Canada’s 2021 SheBelieves Cup involvement ended in a 2-0 defeat to Brazil on Wednesday evening.

Shelina was a permanent fixture of the Canadian back line throughout the tournament, playing the full 90 minutes of every game in Orlando, Florida.

Brazil showed their attacking flair in the first half with goals from Debinha and Julia giving them a two-goal lead at the break.

There were more promising signs for Canada in the second half as they advanced up the pitch and began to exploit gaps. Shelina came closest to finding a breakthrough in the 84th minute when she forced consecutive goal-line saves from Brazilian goalkeeper Barbara.

Despite going forward with more purpose, the Canadians were unable to find a breakthrough.

The result meant Bev Priestman’s side finished the four-game tournament in third place behind Brazil and the United States, who clinched the SheBelieves Cup for the second year in a row.
