'I liked our spirit' - Hugo taking positives into West Brom

Hugo Lloris wants to take the spirit of our second half display against Chelsea into Sunday’s clash against West Brom at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (12noon).
Like Jose Mourinho, the skipper took positives away from the second half performance of our 1-0 loss against the Blues on Thursday evening. Jorginho’s first half penalty ultimately consigned us to defeat, but we pushed the visitors back in the second half and created chances – Erik Lamela, Heung-Min Son, Lucas and Carlos Vinicius all went close, with Carlos’ header inches wide in the closing stages.
“In the first half, we were too focussed on the defensive task,” reflected Hugo. “That’s why we sat back a bit too much and that allowed the opponent to manage the ball and the game. At the same time, we didn’t create too many chances, and the penalty, we were a bit unfortunate.
“They didn’t create too much in the second half and we opened the game, we took more risks and we showed great faith.
“We were a bit unlucky. We were closer to making a draw than to lose 2-0. It’s football, but I think we can take something from the second half. I liked our spirit and want to take those positives.
“We showed the team is ready to be more confident, and that’s what we want to see every weekend. It’s been three games in a row with the taste of defeat, but I think we are close to being back. We have to bring consistency into our performances.”
