50 up for Ben in Europe

Ben Davies has joined a select group of Spurs players to have reached a half-century of appearances in Europe for the Club.

The Welsh full-back reached his 50 in our 4-0 win against Wolfsberger AC in our UEFA Europa League round of 32, second leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a result that wrapped up an 8-1 aggregate victory against the Austrians.

Ben marked a special night by captaining the team as goals from Dele, Carlos Vinicius (2) and Gareth Bale booked our place in the last 16. The draw for the round of 16 is on Friday (12noon).

"It’s a proud moment," said Ben, who played his first European game for us against AEL in Cyprus back in August, 2014. "I love playing for this club and to achieve something like that and to be on the list with some of those players is a special feeling, something I’m very happy about."

Only seven players have played 50-plus games for us in Europe. All-time great Steve Perryman, two-time UEFA Cup winner, still tops the list with 64 appearances. Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris are hot on his heels with 61 each while Heung-Min Son (48) and Erik Lamela (47) are knocking on the door of 50.

Meanwhile, Gareth's two goals over the two legs against Wolfsberger AC have taken him to 11 goals in Europe for the Club - he's only the 12th player to do so. Harry Kane became our all-time top European goalscorer back in March, 2019, and he's now up to 36 goals. Heung-Min Son, Erik Lamela, Lucas and now Gareth are also on the list.
