Antonio Conte reports that Giovani Lo Celso is back in the frame for our New Year’s Day clash against Watford at Vicarage Road (3pm).
The midfielder has been sidelined with a calf issue for our last two matches against Palace and Southampton. However, Steven Bergwijn - who Antonio confirmed in his press conference at St Mary's had picked up a calf problem against Crystal Palace - Ryan Sessegnon (muscular injury) and Cristian Romero (hamstring) all remain out.
Speaking to us after training on Thursday, Antonio said: “Giovani Lo Celso has recovered from his injury, and he’s available for the game against Watford. Romero, Bergwijn and Sessegnon are still out, but the good news for us is Giovani has recovered."
There was an update on Cristian, who has been out since damaging his hamstring playing for Argentina against Brazil in November - an injury that means he's only been available for Antonio's first two matches.
“Everything is going in the right way with Cristian. For us, he’s an important player. It was a pity that he suffered a serious injury with his national team. We hope for him to recover very soon. I hope to have him available at the end of this month.”
Today, we had a good session and then tomorrow... we’ll be ready for the game against Watford on Saturday
It's been a busy spell with high-intensity matches against Liverpool (19 December), West Ham in the Carabao Cup (22 December), Palace (Boxing Day) and Southampton on Tuesday – a spell that has produced two wins and two draws.
Antonio remains unbeaten in the Premier League since arriving in November - five wins, two draws - and became the first Spurs manager to remain undefeated in his first seven games in charge in the Premier League era with the 1-1 draw at St Mary's.
He added: “We’ve played four games in nine days. It’s not easy. If you look at the games against Liverpool, West Ham, two intense games, then Palace was a good game, and Southampton, two days after Palace, was another big effort.
“With the next game in four days, we have time to recover and rest. Yesterday, I gave the players a day off, because sometimes it’s better to rest with your family rather than have a training session, sometimes it’s much better to recover with rest rather than train. Today, we had a good session and then tomorrow... we’ll be ready for the game against Watford on Saturday.”
