It’s been an eventful first week of the season for our players out on loan in the EFL, capped by Kion Etete’s match-winning brace for Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The striker, making his debut for his new loan club, scored twice in the second half as the Cobblers came back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Coventry City in the first round.
He’d been an unused substitute in Northampton’s League Two curtain-raiser against Port Vale on Saturday, which they won 1-0, having linked up with them last week.
Jamie Bowden also enjoyed a productive night in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, helping Oldham Athletic through to the next round after a penalty shootout victory at home to Tranmere Rovers.
The midfielder went close with an early shot before claiming the assist for Oldham’s first goal as they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, subsequently winning the shootout 4-3.
He’d made his league debut from the start in Oldham’s home clash with Newport County in League Two on Saturday, which the visitors won 1-0 through an 88th-minute goal.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Troy Parrott made his debut for MK Dons during their thrilling 3-3 draw at Bolton Wanderers in League One. The striker started the match and had an effort cleared off the line in the first half, before being substituted with nine minutes remaining.
Goalkeeper Brandon Austin, meanwhile, recently returned to us following his loan spell at Orlando City during the first half of this year, where he made five appearances in the MLS.
