Tottenham Hotspur Foundation hosted a women’s five-a-side football tournament at New River Sports & Fitness Centre in Tottenham last weekend.

The Spurs Series Women’s Tournament is part of the Foundation’s ‘Making Sport a Daily Habit’ programme, which is designed to encourage people who are not usually active to incorporate exercise into their daily routine.

The tournament saw six teams from across London take part, with ‘Christina and the Queens’ crowned champions after securing a 3-2 victory in a tense penalty shoot-out.

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been delivering sessions virtually throughout the pandemic, helping participants to stay connected.

The Foundation runs a range of projects all year round to create opportunities for women and girls to access sport, including delivering football sessions at Haringey Sixth Form College, where girls between 16 to 18 years old can take part in inclusive drills and matches.

The tournament was led by our former defender, Renee Hector.

Speaking after the event, Renee said: “It was brilliant to see so many people attend the tournament. As summer approaches, this is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get back outdoors and be active, and most importantly have fun. We look forward to welcoming many more participants over the coming months.”

One participant commented: “With restrictions now lifting, it was great to be back outdoors playing football. Huge thank you to Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for delivering this event in the local area – it helps to create a real sense of community while reminding us to stay active!”
