Internationals – full-backs in UEFA Nations League action

Matt Doherty and Ben Davies played 90 minutes for their respective countries during Thursday night’s round of international fixtures.

New signing Matt earned his 10th cap for the Republic of Ireland at right-back as they snatched a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in the UEFA Nations League in Sofia.

The hosts appeared to be heading for a slender victory until Shane Duffy popped up with a 93rd-minute leveller for the Republic.

Left-back Ben, meanwhile, returned to the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, where he played for us against Celtic in pre-season of 2014 shortly after joining us, to help Wales to a 1-0 Nations League victory over Finland. Kieffer Moore bagged the winner 10 minutes from time.

Steven Bergwijn is next up for Nations League duty when his Netherlands side host Poland on Friday evening.
