Spurs v LASK – how to watch, team news, key information

Thu 22 October 2020, 10:33|Tottenham Hotspur

We take to the field in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League for the first time in five years tonight (Thursday 22 October) as we take on Austrian side LASK on matchday one in Group J.

Having progressed through three qualifying ties over the last few weeks, we now embark on a six-match run in the initial phase of the competition, bidding to finish in the top two places and book a spot in the round of 32 in the New Year.

Kick-off in the behind-closed-doors clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is at 8pm UK – here’s all you need to know ahead of the game...

How can I watch the game?

This evening’s match is being shown live on BT Sport 2 in the UK, kick-off 8pm. You can find full worldwide broadcast listings here.

Remember, you can also follow the action via our live Match Centre here on tottenhamhotspur.com and the Spurs Official app, with live text and audio commentary, goal alerts and stats at your fingertips.

Plus, don’t forget to tune in to N17 Live, our exclusive pre-match show coming to you live from inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, from the earlier time of 6.30pm UK. It’s available to watch for free online, across social media and on the Spurs Official app.

And as you support the team from home, why not download our matchday family party toolkit, featuring printable posters, recipes and games?

How will the teams line up?

Jose Mourinho confirmed in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference that defender Davinson Sanchez is in line to start, although fellow defenders Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga remain out.

Giovani Lo Celso, who has missed our last two matches, and Erik Lamela, who was sidelined for Sunday’s draw against West Ham, have trained this week and could feature, although Joe Rodon, Paulo Gazzaniga and Gedson Fernandes are not on our Europa League squad list for the group stage of the competition and are consequently ineligible for tonight’s match.

UEFA rules now allow 12 players to be named on the bench, of which five can be used – read what Jose Mourinho has to say about that here.

Who is the referee and what colours will the teams be playing in?

Tonight’s match officials are all from Sweden. Referee Mohammed Al-Hakim is assisted by Fredrik Klyver and Mikael Hallin, with Glenn Nyberg as the fourth official.

As is the tradition whenever we take to the field in European competition, we’ll be in all-Lilywhite tonight, with our goalkeeper in all green.

LASK will line up in dark grey shirts, shorts and socks, with two vertical red and grey stripes running down the left side of their shirts. Their goalkeeper will be in pink.

What will the weather be like?

It’s forecast to be cloudy in north London, with temperatures at around 13 degrees at kick-off.

What about the matchday programme?

Once again, while we unfortunately cannot welcome our supporters into the stadium for the game, printed copies of our official matchday programme are still available to order and have delivered direct to your door.

Although the deadline to order your copy and have it in your hands in time for kick-off has now passed, you can still order yours online for delivery as soon as possible. New striker Carlos Vinicius, signed on loan from Benfica recently, takes centre stage in tonight’s issue, appearing on the front cover and speaking to us in the main interview inside. Still only £3.50, order yours in the post now or subscribe so you never miss an issue.

What are the connections between Spurs and LASK?

Although we have never played LASK before, Steven Bergwijn has – he faced the Austrian outfit for former club PSV in their Europa League group stage campaign last season.

Our former defender Kevin Wimmer came up through the ranks and began his senior career with LASK, eventually finding his way to Spurs in 2015 after a spell at 1. FC Köln in Germany. He left us for Stoke City in 2017, having played 31 times in our colours – he tells us about his connections to LASK in tonight’s matchday programme, with his father Wolfgang also having served the Austrian club as their first team goalkeeper coach for a number of years up until 2018/19.

Discover more about the connections between the two clubs and read Steven’s memories of playing against them here.
