Welcoming 14 new Official Supporters’ Clubs!
Mon 09 November 2020, 15:42|Tottenham Hotspur
We are pleased to welcome 14 new Official Supporters’ Clubs into our Spurs family – taking our total number of clubs worldwide to 294.
In the face of such challenging times, the passion of our fans across the globe remains as strong as ever with four new clubs joining from the UK, three from the USA, new clubs in Argentina, Brazil, China and India, plus our first ever clubs in the Dominican Republic, Gibraltar and Mexico.
Of particular interest from our new UK groups is Alnwick Spurs, due to the Northumberland town’s unique link to the Club’s history.
Alnwick Castle was the home of Sir Henry Percy – known as ‘Harry Hotspur’ – the famed medieval knight whose story inspired the Club’s naming by Bobby Buckle and co in 1882.
The Supporters’ Club has been established by Andy Petherick, CEO of Pilgrim Spirit Ltd – the producer of Hotspur Gin.
He has set up a perfect meeting place for fans in a soon-to-be-built gin experience room at the company’s offices, a stone’s throw from the Castle – it will be named Hotspur House.
Andy said: “We’ll have a three-metre projection screen, which will drop down, and this will become the home of the Alnwick Spurs Supporters’ Club. We’ll have Hotspur suits of armour, stags’ heads on the walls, candelabra on the ceiling, flag stones – it will be the same as walking into Alnwick Castle!
“Whenever we televise a match, anyone who comes along, presents an Official Spurs Supporters’ Club membership card and is wearing a current Spurs shirt will get a free gin and tonic.
“There is an undercurrent of Spurs fans within what is typically a very strong Geordie area. I see two guys every morning when I walk my dogs near to the castle who always have a full Spurs rig on, walking their dogs.”
A remarkable discovery!
Alnwick Spurs is joined by Corby & Kettering Spurs, Rutland Spurs and West Lancashire Spurs as our new UK clubs.
We are proud to have more Supporters’ Clubs in the USA than any other club – Charlottesville Spurs, Honolulu Spurs and St. Augustine Spurs now take that number to 92.
In South America, Buenos Aries Spurs and Belo Horizonte Spurs become part of the wider Argentina Spurs and Brazil Spurs networks respectively.
Macau Spurs become our seventh Official Supporters’ Club in the China-Hong Kong region, with Kolkata Spurs becoming our fifth in India.
Santo Domingo Spurs become our first Official Supporters’ Club in the Dominican Republic, joining Gibraltar Spurs and Mexico City Spurs in taking the Spurs family into new territories.
