Jose Mourinho reports that Toby Alderweireld’s injury is not as bad as first feared, but the defender will still be out for ‘between two and four weeks’.
Toby picked up a groin injury in the latter stages of our 2-0 win against Manchester City on Saturday. The central defender was outstanding - alongside the rest of the team - but pulled up with the problem after 81 minutes.
“He has a muscular injury, but not as big as we initially thought,” explained Jose at his pre-match press conference after training on Wednesday, ahead of our UEFA Europa League clash against Ludogorets at home tomorrow evening (8pm).
“He will have his time to be out, but not like a month, which was immediately what we thought. So, I would say between two and four weeks, but of course, he’s not playing tomorrow.
“He was playing his best football, he’s an important player we will miss, but we have Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon, although not (Joe, ineligible for Europa League group stage) for tomorrow, and we’ll fight with what we have.”
