Tottenham Hotspur
We’ve three additions to our all-new Legends section here on tottenhamhotspur.com – two of the greatest goalscorers of all-time and a footballing genius.
Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne’s are the latest profiles available in this new section where we're building a portfolio of the Club's greats.
‘Greavsie’, of course, the greatest goalscorer of them all. Our record marksman with 266 goals in 379 appearances between 1962-1970, Jimmy helped us win the FA Cup in 1962, the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963 - scoring in both finals - and the FA Cup again in 1967.
He is still the highest all-time goalscorer in the top flight of English football (Division One/Premier League) with 357 league goals in 516 games for Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham.
Gary’s goal record at Spurs is also phenomenal - 80 goals in 138 appearances for us between 1989-1992. Joining us from Barcelona, Gary’s goals helped England to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990 before firing us to the FA Cup in 1991, memorably striking twice in the semi-final win against Arsenal at Wembley in April, 1991.
And that’s where you have to start with Gazza. His performances led us to Wembley - goals in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds - before that sparkling 60 minutes against the Gunners where, carrying an injury, he scored one of the most famous Spurs goals, a 30-yard free-kick that sailed past David Seaman to hand us the lead that day. Gary followed up with two goals as we triumphed 3-1.
Signed from Newcastle in 1988, we saw the best of Gazza with his performances leading up to the 1990 World Cup and then at Italia 90 handing him superstar status. Like his mate Gary, Gazza delivered for England and then for Spurs the following season until, sadly, that tackle and subsequent serious knee injury in the final. Thankfully, he recovered for play for Lazio, win the lot at Rangers in Scotland and star again for England at Euro 96.

We will pay tribute to the players who made our Club what it is today in this new section. Born in 1882, that is a lot of Spurs Legends! Next up - the one and only Bill Nicholson, all-time great Steve Perryman and early trailblazer, Walter Tull.
