Coming this week... the untold Ajax stories!

Mon 04 May 2020, 14:24|Tottenham Hotspur

Friday marks one year since our fabled Champions League semi-final victory over Ajax in Amsterdam.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, two first-half goals saw us slip further behind, with our dreams of reaching the showpiece Final seemingly out of reach.

But what happened next, we’ll all remember for the rest of our lives. Lucas Moura wrote his name into Club folklore with a second-half hat-trick – his third goal coming out of almost nothing, deep into added time – to send us through to our first-ever Champions League Final!

It seems like only yesterday but, incredibly, 12 months have already passed since that magical night in the Netherlands.

This week, as we build up to the one-year anniversary on Friday, we’ll be bringing you a series of interviews, articles and Spurs TV specials looking back at what transpired.

Over the coming days, look out for previously untold stories here on tottenhamhotspur.com from the players involved – and not involved – on the night, media pundits, football personalities and celebrity fans, plus insight into how Lucas has previous when it comes to scoring important hat-tricks and the interesting backstory of the famous green kit we wore against both Ajax and Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Later in the week, Spurs TV will be catching up with Lucas himself for an exclusive chat about his achievements in Amsterdam a year ago and how it’s affected his life since, while there’ll also be a special programme where we hear from both clubs’ former manager Martin Jol, who was in the Johan Cruyff Arena on the night, along with BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher and Spurs supporting BBC broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake.

It all culminates on Friday evening (8 May) as we bring you a full rerun of the entire second leg here on tottenhamhotspur.com, complemented by live social media coverage and fan reactions on Twitter @SpursOfficial. Kick-off is at 8pm.

As with all teams, competitions and players that we cover here on tottenhamhotspur.com, you’ll be able to find all Ajax-related content as it appears over the coming days by clicking on the #Ajax hashtag page.

Join us throughout the week as we make the most of our time at home by looking back on one of the most memorable matches we’ve ever experienced... enjoy!
