Jose Mourinho said he ‘loved the mentality’ of the team as we turned around a typically tough encounter at Turf Moor to earn a deserved point on Saturday evening.

Burnley were in control at the break, leading 1-0 thanks to Chris Wood’s strike having put us under pressure in the first half – 14 shots came our way in the opening 45 minutes.

Jose switched things around at half-time, introduced Lucas Moura and Giovani Lo Celso and changed formation from a 3-4-3 to 4-2-3-1, the impressive Eric Dier moving from central defence into central midfield.

Gio particularly caught the eye as we turned the game on its head. Erik Lamela was upended by Ben Mee just five minutes into the second half, and Dele slotted home confidently from the penalty spot – his 50th goal in 153 Premier League appearances for us.

We took control from there and, as Jose described, ‘arrived in many dangerous positions’ without finding what surely would have been a decisive second goal.

I love the mentality of my team in the second half. We took risks. We played, we built, we created, all against a team that is very dangerous

Jose said: “Generally, a very good game, of course it’s not the result we want, and we showed that in the way we played until the last second, always trying to win, but we didn’t manage to score more than one goal.

“Burnley is a team that defends well and doesn’t concede many goals, but (the fact) we arrived in many dangerous positions and didn’t manage to do it is hard for us. I’m pleased with the reaction, pleased with the attitude.

“My team was fantastic in the second half. Lucas and Lo Celso, they made a difference. Dier, you could see his performance was really solid again and under emotional control. He played well again as centre-back, played very well in central midfield. I’m very happy with him.

“We took risks. We played, we built, we created, all against a team that is very dangerous. Burnley can always go to the corner and score a goal or go on the counter-attack and score a goal.

“I love the mentality of my team in the second half. Lo Celso wanted the ball all the time, fantastic selection of passes. He was fantastic with the ball. Every time Lucas got between the lines, they couldn’t stop him. The players made the difference.”
