Winning run continues as Foxes fall in final home game
Spurs 3-0 Leicester City

Harry Kane continued his incredible goalscoring form against Leicester City to help us on our way to a solid 3-0 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Our England forward had scored 12 times in just nine Premier League matches against the Foxes going into this fixture, including a hat-trick and a four-goal haul, and added a superbly-taken brace to his tally on this occasion as we recorded a fourth-straight Premier League win at our new stadium for the very first time.
We were already ahead through a James Justin own goal in the sixth minute – Heung-Min Son’s drive deflecting off the Leicester defender and flying past Kasper Schmeichel – when Kane scored his first of the afternoon in the 37th minute. And he piled on the misery for the Foxes just three minutes later with the goal of the game, curling a magnificent right-foot effort from just inside the area to put us well in control.
Hugo Lloris made a number of excellent saves throughout what was our final home game of the season to preserve our clean sheet and ensure three more points, as we climbed up to sixth in the table above Wolves, who play on Monday.
Jose Mourinho fielded an unchanged side for the third straight game which meant a 200th Spurs appearance for Toby Alderweireld in the 100th league meeting between the two sides. We made a fast start with the opening goal after just six minutes as we broke up a Leicester attack, Lucas Moura heading on to Kane who turned and sent Son away down the left flank. The South Korean international advanced towards the area, cut inside onto his right foot and drilled a shot which took a big deflection off Justin and wrong-footed Schmeichel as it flew into the net.
The response from the visitors was a positive one as they pushed us back and had a couple of half-chances, Jamie Vardy and Justin seeing efforts blocked in quick succession by Alderweireld and Ben Davies respectively. On 20 minutes, Wes Morgan got up well to send a header goalwards from a corner which Lloris saved. The rebound fell to Vardy who, with his back to goal, produced a back-heel which was blocked by Davies and Lloris and we scrambled the ball away. And five minutes later, our skipper kept us in front with a quite wonderful save, getting a strong hand low down to his left to keep out Ayoze Perez’s powerful 15-yard volley.
At the other end in the 30th minute, it was the Foxes who were thankful to their goalkeeper as a ball over the top from Harry Winks released Son in behind the Leicester defence but his half-volley from the edge of the area was well saved by Schmeichel. We were pushed back once more for a spell as the visitors looked for the equaliser but again, produced a devastating counter-attack to double our advantage. It was a Leicester corner this time which was cleared to midfield where Son won the ball from Luke Thomas and we were away. Giovani Lo Celso found Lucas down the left, his pass put Kane through and the England international applied the perfect left-foot finish to beat Schmeichel.
Just three minutes later, Kane produced a magnificent strike to make it 3-0 and once again, it was another goal on the break. Lucas this time won possession on the right from Thomas, carried the ball forwards and laid it off to Kane. His pass was a bit heavy and pushed our number 10 a little wide, but it mattered not as he collected the ball, moved inside Ryan Bennett onto his right foot and sent a beautiful curling shot past the Leicester goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The last chance of the half fell to the visitors, Lloris denying Perez again with another fine save to tip his long-ranger over the bar. And it was an almost identical save that kick-started the second half action, this time the French stopper tipping substitute Demarai Gray’s 25-yard free-kick over in the 58th minute.
With a comfortable three-goal cushion, we didn’t exert ourselves too much going forwards and were happy to let the visitors have a lot of possession in our half to see if they could break us down. But they couldn’t find a way through and we didn’t have too many scares in front of our goal. In the closing stages, Kelechi Iheanacho’s curling left-foot drive from 25 yards brought another good save out of Lloris and from the corner, youngster George Hirst should have done better with his back post header which flew over the crossbar and that was the final action of the game.
Key moment
Having taken an early lead, we were on the back foot for a period as we soaked up some Leicester pressure and the superb save from Lloris to deny Perez in the 25th minute was a big moment. Had we conceded then, it could have been a different game. But the key moment was our second goal as we put daylight between ourselves and Leicester, Kane at his clinical best to make it 2-0.
Jose's view
Jose Mourinho said: "It was a difficult game and lots of pressure, because we knew without the three points, our hopes for the last match would be gone, so we felt that pressure, we felt that responsibility. We analysed the opponent well, we knew how to hurt them, and we knew how they could hurt us. So we took away the defensive gap where Vardy normally kills opponents and we attract them, we gave them the ball, we attract them because we want Evans, Morgan, Bennett to have the ball, we want them a little far from their goal to exploit the space behind them. So strategically we did well and the players had an amazing effort. It was a great three points."
