Typically modest, Paulo Gazzaniga played down his role in taking a hard-earned point at Watford on Saturday.

The home side were awarded a penalty during their best spell in the second half at Vicarage Road. Troy Deeney stepped up and struck the spot-kick well but Paulo guessed right to his right to palm the ball away.

We had the best of the rest of the game and might have won it in added time only for Ignacio Pussetto to clear Erik Lamela’s effort off the line - we were 10.4 millimetres away from taking the three points.

I’d watched some videos, tried to read him as well, I don’t know, maybe a little luck as well

Paulo on his penalty save

Paulo’s save was more clear cut, a decisive save to his right. “I’d watched some videos, tried to read him as well, I don’t know, maybe a little luck as well,” he said. “I try to do my best and the luck was with me this time.

“It was a tough game, tough stadium, tough team to play. Okay, one point, we looked for three points, but we’ve got one and that’s maybe why we’re a little disappointed.

“We defended well, kept the clean sheet. We worked hard. The clean sheet is reward for everyone. Now we look forward, prepare for the next game and do the same - work hard.”

Norwich City are next up in the Premier League at the new stadium on Wednesday night (7.30pm).
