Vice-captain Josie Green is hoping that the team can go on a good cup run as we begin our journey in this season’s Women’s FA Cup against Barnsley in the fourth round on Sunday (26 January), kick-off is 1pm at The Hive.

Our attentions turn to this weekend’s FA Cup action, following our disappointing 3-0 loss to Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women's Super League last Sunday.

Barnsley sit top of the FA Women’s National League Division One North, the fourth tier of the women's football pyramid, and are unbeaten in the league this season.

They come into our Cup meeting following a thumping 17-0 win last Sunday in the quarter-finals of the County Cup against Socrates Ladies.

Keen to put Sunday’s away defeat to United behind us, Josie is hoping for some joy in the Cup this weekend at The Hive.

Hopefully we’ll be able to show what we can do in front of goal against Barnsley.

“It wasn’t our day against United and now we just need to move on and focus now on our next game against Barnsley,” Josie commented.

“I’m really excited for The FA Cup, it’s a great competition and we want to do well and hopefully go on a good cup run if we can. We’ll take the positives from our defeat in Manchester into Sunday’s game and hopefully we can progress to the next round.”

Reflecting on our performance at Leigh Sports Village, Josie said: “It was a really tough game for us. I think we held out and went in at half time 0-0 and we had a good couple of chances. We need to be putting them away and it’s disappointing from our perspective that it finished with a 3-0 score line. We’re just going to have to learn from it and move on.

“At this level, if you don’t take your chances, the other teams are going to take theirs and punish you. We know what we need to improve on, and we know we need to be more clinical. Hopefully we’ll be able to show what we can do in front of goal against Barnsley.”
