Just days after winning FIFA’s Puskas Award for 2020, Heung-Min Son has become the fourth player in our current squad to reach the 250-appearance milestone for the Club.
Sonny hit the 250 mark on a frustrating afternoon against Leicester City on Sunday. He’s also on 99 goals for Spurs and was denied reaching his century by a wonder save from Kasper Schmeichel in the second half of the 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Snapped up from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, the South Korean captain is now seen as one of the world’s best forwards. Multiple winner of Best Footballer in Asia, KFA Player of the Year and Asian International Footballer of the Year, Sonny has lifted the Premier League’s Player of the Month three times (the last in October, 2020) and Goal of the Month twice. The second of those goals, a stunning solo strike against Burnley in December, 2019, won Match of the Day’s Goal of the Season for 2019/20 and the Puksas Award last week.
He’s on fire this season with 11 goals in 13 Premier League appearances and 14 in 20 in all competitions.
Sonny joins Hugo Lloris (342), Harry Kane (308) and Eric Dier (257), who passed the milestone recently at West Brom, on current players to have made 250-plus appearances for us. Another six have also passed 200 - Toby Alderweireld, Gareth Bale, Ben Davies, Dele, Erik Lamela and Danny Rose.
