Ben: “We know what’s needed in the next game...”

Disappointed at Liverpool, determined to put it right, Ben Davies is counting the hours to our next Premier League outing against Leicester City at home on Sunday (2.15pm).

The Welsh full-back put in quite a shift with his team-mates against the champions, but it wasn’t to be as Roberto Firmino’s late, late header resigned us to a tough-to-take 2-1 loss at Anfield.

The Reds haven’t lost on home soil since April, 2017, now 66 matches, but that unbeaten run was under threat as we created chances with the score at 1-1 at the start of the second half.

Steven Bergwijn hit the post and placed another effort wide and Harry Kane headed down and over from Heung-Min Son’s corner, the key moments. Sonny had earlier cancelled out Mo Salah’s opener in the first half, but Liverpool snatched maximum points right at the end of a heavyweight clash.

“The mindset was to come here to win,” said Ben, who has featured in 19 of our 23 matches so far this term. “We came here with a plan and created a few chances that in the last few matches have gone in for us, but this time we didn’t quite have that bit of luck and we got stung by a couple of disappointing goals.

“We put a lot of effort into the game but, unfortunately, it didn’t go our way this time.

“It’s tough to take but it’s a long season and we’ve a long time to get it right. Everyone is down, everyone is disappointed, but we’re a mature enough group now to know what is needed in the next game.

“Leicester will be another challenge. They’ve had a great start to the season, full of quality, top manager... another tough one.”
