Tottenham Hotspur Stadium named Venue of the Year

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been named Venue of the Year at TheStadiumBusiness Awards 2020.

Now in their 11th year, TheStadiumBusiness Awards recognise a whole spectrum of achievements from across the venue industry, including events, fan experience, innovation, sustainability and technology.

Historically, the awards are announced at a gala dinner held during TheStadiumBusiness Summit, but in line with the restrictions on travel and gatherings, this year’s winners have been announced online.

Hundreds of nominations were whittled down to create the shortlist, judged by an independent panel of industry figures.

Our stadium was nominated alongside the following in the prestigious Venue of the Year category:

• Allianz Field, Minnesota
• Chase Center, San Francisco
• Coca-Cola Arena, Dubai
• Golden 1 Center, Sacramento
• Lord’s Cricket Ground, London
• Optus Stadium, Perth

At present, with football and other events no longer the priority during the COVID-19 pandemic, our stadium has been handed over to our NHS.

Familiar player areas have been transformed into a facility for North Middlesex Hospital’s Women’s Outpatient Services, assisting the redirection of pregnant women away from the hospital itself.

Our huge basement car park is being used to accommodate drive-through COVID-19 testing – the first stadium in London to be used for this purpose.

Meanwhile, our ‘pitch pocket’ is being used as a food distribution hub by Haringey Council, working with the London Food Alliance to ensure produce reaches the most vulnerable and in-need within our community.

Recognition for our stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now picked up 12 industry awards since its opening just over a year ago in categories including structural engineering, architecture, building design, branding and wayfinding, and inclusivity:

• Design Project of the Year at The Building Awards.
• Best Inclusive Building at LABC Awards (for Tottenham Experience).
• WIN (World Interiors News) Gold Award – for the general concourse design in the Leisure and Entertainment Interiors category.
• WIN (World Interiors News) Gold Award – for branding and wayfinding.
• WAN (World Architecture News) Bronze Award – for architecture in the Leisure category.
• Structural Steel Design Awards 2019 – Project of the Year.
• The Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Long-Span Structures.
• The Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Supreme Award for Engineering Excellence.
• AJ Architecture Awards – Leisure Project of the Year.
• TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Awards – Project of the Year.
• TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Awards – Interior and Fit-Out Award for the High Street Concourse.
