While disappointed with the result in its immediacy, Lucas Moura believes we should take heart from the 2-2 draw in our Champions League opener with Olympiacos on Wednesday night.

We had put ourselves into a commanding position against our Greek opponents as we were 2-0 ahead by the half-hour mark but, by the final whistle, we had only managed to take a point from the game.

Heading back to the away changing room at the Karaiskakis Stadium, second goalscorer Lucas was left frustrated with having to share the spoils on the night. But he acknowledged that there were positives to take from the encounter, especially when looking back to last season's Champions League opener against Inter, where we also took the lead before letting things slip and suffering a 2-1 defeat.

It’s important to get one point and now we need to keep fighting and to keep working.

“Disappointment? Yes, it’s true,” the forward reflected on the result in Athens. “I’m happy for the goal, it’s always very good to score but the feeling is a little bit bad because we did the most difficult thing to go 2-0 up and after that, we conceded two goals and didn’t keep our concentration. We need to improve on that.

“Inter last season was difficult, we were very disappointed because we led 1-0 and then (losing) 2-1 to them was difficult. At least we’ve started better this season. It’s important to get one point and now we need to keep fighting and to keep working. We can improve. It’s another season, different history and we know that we need to improve.

“We cannot make some of the mistakes we made in the last games, like against Arsenal and today. We have time, we’ll work hard to try to be in our best shape.

“Bayern Munich will be hard, they are so strong and like I said, we need to keep our concentration for 90 minutes, take opportunities and don’t make mistakes that we’ve made in the last games.

“Now the season starts to be two games a week so we need to rest well and be in our best shape to be ready for the hard games ahead. We will do our best for this.”
