Kit Graham fired up for historic home debut

Forward Kit Graham is anticipating another cracking atmosphere when Spurs Women make history once more on Sunday.

Fresh off a spirited display despite a narrow defeat to Barclays FA Women’s Super League juggernauts Chelsea in our maiden top-flight appearance last weekend, we go again this Sunday in our first game at The Hive – the new home ground of our Women’s team.

With another large crowd expected – you can be there with tickets available via The Hive’s ticketing platform here – Kit is relishing the prospect of putting our first WSL points on the board in what will be our first-ever meeting with Liverpool Women (kick-off 2pm).

“I can't wait to get back to it after playing our first game of the season on Sunday,” said the 23-year-old goal-getter. “Despite the result, confidence is high in the squad and we're just looking forward to getting out there again.

“Our fans were amazing on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. It was good to hear them throughout the game, making a lot of noise and that support meant a lot to us on a big day for the Club. I'm excited to see them all again on Sunday at our home ground and hopefully they will be just as noisy as they were at Chelsea!”

Eighth in the WSL last season, Liverpool began their 2019/20 campaign with a 1-0 home loss to Reading at the weekend, meaning both teams will be looking to respond on Sunday.

“Liverpool are a top side and we know it's not going to be an easy game – I don't think any game this season will be easy,” said the former Charlton striker, who joined us last month. “We both suffered narrow defeats in our opening fixtures of the season so I'm sure they will be looking to bounce back – I know we certainly will. We're just focused on what we need to do and hopefully we can put on another positive performance like we did against Chelsea.”

Kit played the full 90 minutes at the Bridge but saw her best opportunity to hit the target go begging in the first half when Blues goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger made a smart low stop. Needless to say, she’s hoping for better fortunes this time around.

“The defenders we played against on Sunday are some of the best in Europe so it was always going to be a tough test for me playing in attack,” she admitted. “I didn't feel I was at my best on Sunday but I know the team and myself can compete at this level. The main aim is to win regardless but once I get my first competitive goal, I think that will settle a lot of nerves for me.

“We created a lot of chances against Chelsea rather than defending for the entire 90 minutes, which I think some people were expecting us to do. We know we're a threat but it's important that we take our chances when we play again on Sunday.”
