Kane surprises guests at 1984 reunion charity dinner

Harry Kane made a surprise appearance at a private charity gala dinner at the new stadium on Friday night, joining members of our 1984 UEFA Cup-winning squad to mark the 35th anniversary of that memorable European triumph.

The popular striker thrilled fans as he attended the event of his own accord, making a speech on stage before handing out commemorative caps, specially produced by the Centre Algarve charity – the organisation behind the event – for the former players who took part in that joyous run back in the early-1980s.

Legendary ex-defender Graham Roberts, a key figure and goalscorer in the victory over Anderlecht in the final, helped to organise the fundraising night in his role as a patron of Centre Algarve, a holiday centre in Portugal for young people with special needs.

“It’s 35 years next week since we won the cup and it’s absolutely amazing to have this gala dinner at the stadium,” he said. “It’s great to see all the boys – Steve Perryman, Steve Archibald, Paul Miller, Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa, even though he didn’t play in that 1984 team, Mark Falco, Tony Galvin, Mark Bowen, Ally Dick, Tony Parks, Gary Mabbutt, Micky Hazard, Chris Hughton and our physio from back then, Mike Varney. There’s a lot of former players here and it’s nice to meet up with everybody.”

Harry was also reunited with two young fans who have a special place in the hearts of Spurs fans everywhere – Marshall Janson and Ella Markham. Take a look through the photos from the event below...
