Harry Winks describes Moussa Sissoko's story as 'inspirational' as he reflects on his midfield partner's renaissance this season.
Together in the central battleground 21 times in 2018/19, few players have seen closer than 'Winksy' how Moussa has turned around the disappointments of his first couple of seasons at the Club and the personal despair of missing last summer's World Cup with France to play such a huge role for us this season.
The figures say all you need to know. Moussa started eight games in the Premier League for us in 2016/17, 15 in 2017/18 and 27 this time around. He’s made 43 appearances in all competitions and started 36 of our last 47 matches stretching back to October.
Yet when he started work back at Hotspur Way in July, he was watching the French team he'd been part of in qualifying go on to lift the World Cup in Russia.
"That just shows how mentally strong Moussa is and how much of a top professional and role model he is," said Winksy, who has started 29 of his 41 appearances this season, his best yet. "I can’t speak highly enough of him.
"Moussa’s story is incredible really. It’s fair to say the first two seasons didn’t go the way he wanted them to, he had a lot of lows, but you can take inspiration from what he's done this season. He never stopped believing in himself and working hard to get to where he is today.
"He’s reaping the rewards of his hard work and that’s why everyone loves him and thinks so highly of him.
"He’s a great person as well as a great a player. His character around the dressing room is just as important as his ability and his influence on the pitch. He’s a top, top guy and everyone is so happy for the season he has had."
