A little over 36 hours after reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Mauricio Pochettino made a point of congratulating the players and paying tribute to a ‘fantastic achievement’ even though attentions are now fully focused on our return to Premier League action at Southampton on Saturday.
A famous 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of our Round of 16 tie secured a 4-0 victory on aggregate against the Bundesliga leaders and took us into the last eight of the competition for the third time – the previous two in 1961/62 and 2010/11.
It’s a fantastic achievement for the Club and I congratulate the players, they can feel proud about their performance
Speaking back at Hotspur Way on Thursday afternoon, Mauricio told Spurs TV: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the Club and I congratulate the players, they can feel proud about their performance, their behaviour and the way we approached the game against Dortmund.
“Dortmund are a club and a team who are always there, one of the best teams in Europe, top of the Bundesliga, they beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the group stage. They only conceded at home against us in the Champions League.
“To beat the team at the top of the Bundesliga 4-0 over two legs is fantastic.
“There are a lot of things to be proud of. It’s an amazing thing, I’m so happy for the Club and the fans and now we need to change our objectives and be ready to compete in the best way against Southampton.”
