Eyes on the ball, not the clock - Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris wasn’t taking any notice of the match clock when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up to take his stoppage-time penalty for Arsenal on Saturday.
Level at 1-1 after Harry Kane’s spot-kick, our hard work might have unravelled when substitute Aubameyang went down in the area and had an opportunity to win the derby for our rivals right at the end of the game at Wembley.
But captain Hugo wasn’t about to let that happen.
The Frenchman saved down to his right, with centre-back Jan Vertonghen making another heroic intervention on the follow-up to preserve our point.
In recent weeks we’ve seen late goals win us games, but this time it was a late, late show at the other end that proved decisive.
“At this moment of the game I didn’t think about the time. I still don’t know which minute the penalty save was in,” said Hugo after the dust had settled. “Most important is that we got a result – and we could have even won because we had a big chance on the free-kick after that.
“I have two feelings – a bit of disappointment because we expected a win, but if you see the context, in the week we lost two games and today we were 1-0 down after 15 minutes, so I think it’s a good result now to stop the bad run.
At the end it was a bit crazy but we didn’t lose and now we are looking forward to the next period.

Typically humble, Hugo was brief in his assessment of his recent penalty heroics, having now saved two on the trot following on from his denial of Jamie Vardy in the recent 3-1 home win over Leicester City.
“I’m happy with that,” he said. “I’m not used to saving a lot of penalties but at least the last two were important and I helped the team to stay in the game.”
