There’s a certain symmetry to Ben Davies and Harry Winks both signing new contracts with the Club until 2024.
Ben arrived at Spurs in the summer of 2014 while Harry graduated from our Academy to make his debut against FK Partizan in November of the same year - both will clock up a decade in our famous lilywhite shirt by the time 2024 comes around.
“I’ve been at the Club since I was five, so when I got the opportunity to sign a new contract it was a no-brainer,” said midfielder ‘Winksy’, now 23, who first stepped foot through the door aged six. “It’s a contract I’ve worked hard for. It was a great season last season and to sign a new contract, I’m delighted, really happy.”
This season is huge for us and if we get that togetherness as a group then anything is possible
Ben, 26, has racked up 168 appearances since his debut against AEL Limassol in August, 2014.
“I’m obviously delighted to sign here for the next five years,” he said. “I’ve worked hard to put myself in the position to stay at the Club for the next few years. Yes, I’m delighted.”
It seems incredible, but 14 players in the current squad have now made over 100 appearances for the Club.
Harry, now on 102, was the latest to hit the century towards the end of last season and with that time and emotion invested, it’s clear why team-mates and the Club has a genuine ‘family’ feel to it.
We’ve huge motivation in the squad, new players coming in and it’s going to be an exciting season
Harry said: “Everyone is friends off the pitch as well as on the pitch. On the pitch, we’ll die for each other, work as hard as we can and that showed with the success we had last season. Just look at the amount of times we came back from adversity.
“The performances we showed as a group is credit to the gaffer, the coaches and the boys as well because we’ve a fantastic bunch of players.”
Ben added: “When you are on the pitch, things aren’t always going to go the way you want but if you know the man next to you is going to do his best for you and try to dig you out of a hole if that happens and you have 11 players like that working on the field then it can take you a long way. It can win you games even when things aren’t going right.”
