50,000 days of Tottenham Hotspur!

Mon 29 July 2019, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

In 1882, three young people - John Anderson, Bobby Buckle and Hamilton Casey - met underneath a streetlamp on Tottenham High Road, just yards from what is now one of the best football stadiums in the world, our new home. Members of Hotspur Cricket Club, they were seeking a sport to play in the winter months. ‘Hotspur Football Club’ was born.

On 5 September 1882, the first subscriptions of a sixpence were paid - this is the birth date of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Today, 29 July, 2019, marks 50,000 days of Spurs!

From initially playing friendlies at nearby Tottenham Marshes to moving to White Hart Lane in 1899, becoming the first (and still only) non-league team to win the FA Cup in 1901 and joining the Football League in 1908 to the present day, approaching 137 years later, one of the biggest clubs in the world, we can celebrate a ‘glory, glory’ past and exciting future.

What an incredible 50,000 days it has been - here’s to 50,000 more!

And how apt it was to see the family of Bobby Buckle take a poignant recent tour of the new stadium - almost 50,000 days since he helped form the Club!
