Heung-Min Son has been named ‘Best Footballer in Asia’ for the fourth time.
The annual award, presented by Chinese sports newspaper Titan Sports, is voted for by a panel of journalists and, once more, they have recognised Sonny’s superb form for club and country.
The forward, who has previously picked up the prize in 2014, 2015 and 2017, scored nine goals for us in the second half of our 2017/18 campaign as we reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and finished third in the Premier League.
He was then a part of South Korea’s squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia where, although they exited in the group stage, he found the target twice - one of those coming as he captained his nation to a 2-0 win over then-holders Germany.
After briefly returning for the start of our 2018/19 campaign, the attacker then headed to Indonesia to lead his country to gold in the 2018 Asian Games. He played in six out of his nation’s seven games, scoring once and assisting five times - including setting up both of the goals in September’s final as South Korea defeated Japan 2-1.
That fine form would soon continue for our number seven as he arrived back in north London.
Scoring his first goals of the season in October’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham, he would go on to produce a moment of magic as he netted a stunning solo effort against Chelsea, earning him the Premier League's Carling Goal of the Month award for November.
His top gear was still to come, however, as in the final month of the year, he bagged seven goals in just nine appearances as we enjoyed some terrific results and performances.
As a result, he's also been shortlisted for the Premier League's EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for December, 2018, alongside Harry Kane, with voting now open to determine the winner.
