Spurs Women host Lewes under the lights at The Hive tomorrow evening in the Continental League Cup for our final home game of 2019.

The Group D tie sees us take on FA Women’s Championship side Lewes who sit bottom of the group table, while we are positioned fourth. However, both teams are unable to qualify for the next round of the competition after failing to secure a top two spot which enables you to proceed to the knockout stages.

Chelsea have already topped the group and Reading and West Ham, who are separated in second and third place by two points, will battle it out for the second qualification spot in their ties against the Blues and Crystal Palace tomorrow.

We come into the midweek game on a high, following a hard-fought victory over Brighton at the weekend where three points at home moved us up to sixth in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League as we earned our first win in the league since October.

Currently seventh in the Championship, Lewes are on a run of 10 consecutive defeats in all competitions and have lost all four of their games in the League Cup so far.

It’s our last home game of the year and we really want to finish off with a win

When the two sides played each other in the Championship last season, we came out on top on both occasions.

Away from home, a brace from Rianna Dean helped seal a 3-1 win at The Dripping Pan and goals from Jess Naz, Dean and skipper Jenna Schillaci secured three points in the reverse fixture at Cheshunt during our promotion-winning campaign.

Ahead of our second home game in four days, Head Coach Juan Amoros said: “Lewes are a very good team we know well from competing against them in the Championship last season. I think it’s a good opportunity for us to rotate the squad as we are in the middle of playing four games in the space of 12 days and it’s a great chance for players who don’t play regularly to show what they can do.”

Head Coach Karen Hills added: “It’s our last home game of the year and we really want to finish off with a win and hopefully we’ll be able to give other players, including Development players, an opportunity to get out there and get some good experience under their belts. It’s obviously disappointing for us not to have qualified for the knockout stages in this competition but we can now focus fully on the league and hopefully build on what’s already been a positive start to the season.”

Kick-off against Lewes is at 7.30pm at The Hive tomorrow (11 December) and tickets are available to purchase here.
