‘More fight, more passion’ - Kane on Brighton win

A little more fight got us over the line against Brighton on Boxing Day. That’s the opinion of skipper Harry Kane, who led by example as we turned the game around in the second half for another crucial win in the Premier League.

Determined to find a positive response after Sunday’s loss against Chelsea, we found ourselves 1-0 down at half-time after a frustrating first half. Harry looked like he’d put us ahead midway through the half, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside by VAR.

To rub salt into the wound, Adam Webster headed Brighton into the lead on 37 minutes. Work to do.

Harry levelled 10 minutes into the second half as we started to get on top. Dele then crafted a fine finish for what turned out to be the winner on 72 minutes – five wins in the last seven moved us back up to fifth.

“The first half was a little disappointing, we didn’t quite get going early on and obviously going 1-0 down against a good side is never easy,” said Harry, who scored his 180th goal in a Spurs shirt.

“We came out in the second half with a lot more energy, a lot more fight, a lot more passion. Getting the early goal helped and then momentum swung our way. We did well to get the second and it was a big shift to see the game out.

“We’ve quality but in some games this season we haven’t quite been there in terms of off the ball, pressing, working hard in the right way together, in the right shape. We did that well in the second half and they didn’t create too many chances because they couldn’t really get out of their half.

“It was one of those games... a few days after you lose in a big game, it’s important to bounce back and no matter how you get it done, three points was most important.

“We would have liked to have played a bit better and scored a few more goals but that’s the Premier League, you play tough teams every game and we’ve a busy schedule, so it was important to start on Boxing Day with a win.”

Harry described Dele’s finish as ‘unbelievable’ before telling us how we’d now prepare for Saturday’s trip to Norwich City (5.30pm).

“You recover well, it will be an ice bath this time! Prepare, we travel tomorrow so get some work done, get your feet up and we’ve a big squad, so if the manager decides to change it, the players who didn’t play will be ready. And if he keeps it the same, it’s a game of football and we’ll be ready to go again.”
