Max - the KIDZ BOP star who loves Spurs

At 14, Max Kenward is getting used to the spotlight as one of the young stars of KIDZ BOP, but he was left wide-eyed by his first trip to Spurs and his first ‘live’ view of our new stadium.

“Sitting here is just amazing,” said Max, speaking to us in the home dugout, where, it was pointed out, Jose Mourinho would soon be taking his seat. “Wow, that’s crazy.”

For the uninitiated, KIDZ BOP records kid-friendly versions of today’s biggest pop music hits sung by kids, for kids. Over the past 18 years, KIDZ BOP has created the number one music brand for kids in the United States, selling more than 19 million albums! Now they are a hit in the UK, and Max is a big part of it.

So how did that happen?

“It was a nationwide audition process,” explained Max, based in Essex. “I was singing, I was dancing, I got a call back and got the job. That was just over three years ago. KIDZ BOP is massive in the US and it’s really kicking-off over here.

“In fact, we’re doing a UK tour in April. We did a show in April at the Hammersmith Apollo, that was huge. It’s great, I love it, a massive passion and something I want to do for the rest of my life.”

While he’s taking his first steps to pop stardom, Max was quick to point out that schoolwork still comes first. “Yes, school is priority for me. I’m doing my GSCEs next year.

“We usually rehearse and do our shows at the weekend and if we’re on set doing a video shoot during the week, we’ll get a tutor, so we’re always keeping up with work.”

Back to Spurs, Max told how he became a fan. “I’m here with my uncle Terry and my dad Steve,” he said. “I guess it was always going to be which uncle bought me the first Spurs babygrow!

“I’ve been a Spurs fan since I was little. I love the team and to be here now is crazy, a dream. The stadium is huge and sitting pitchside is amazing. This is my first game. It’s great. I just want to see them win now…"

We duly delivered in style against Burnley!
