Winksy: “We always believed we’d get there”

Harry Winks had no doubts. The midfielder gave everything for 64 minutes against Villa and left the pitch with us in control, but still trailing 1-0 in our Premier League opener.

Ten minutes later we were level thanks to Tanguy Ndombele’s debut goal. With four minutes left, Harry Kane struck his first goal at the new stadium for 2-1 and it was soon 3-1 as Harry doubled-up.

“I thought the way we handled it and came back from being 1-0 down shows just how good we are, and in typical Spurs fashion,” said Winksy.

“I always believed we’d get there. We’ve been in that situation so many times and it’s something you learn to deal with, to be patient and believe. Saturday was no different.”

Now 23, it was Winksy’s first start in a season opener. “It was a must-win game for us,” he added. “It was the first game of the season at the new stadium and vital we got the three points. There was a lot of pressure on us as well, but we knew that.

“To get the first three points of the season with a good performance and to get back to winning ways is most important. Everyone is happy.”
