To celebrate the success of our summer holiday football coaching programme, Heung-Min Son today (Friday 23 August) made a surprise visit to a session at Frederick Knight Sports Ground in Tottenham.
Throughout July and August, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been running free grassroots football coaching courses and tournaments for children aged 5 to 18 years old in Haringey. As well as teaching local children new skills, the sessions are designed to be fun and give youngsters the chance to meet new friends in a safe environment.
Today’s session was extra special as children from the North London Korean School were invited to attend.
Son helped deliver a series of shooting, passing and tackling drills before showing the children some of his own tricks and skills. After the football session, he also spent time with the youngsters, teaching them some popular Korean words.
In addition to the summer holiday courses, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation runs Premier League Kicks sessions every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evening in locations across North London. These are free for anyone to attend and run all year round.
Son said: “It’s always a pleasure meeting young fans and spending time playing football with them. These summer holiday programmes are a fantastic initiative to keep children off the streets and playing football in a safe environment. Sport is a great way to improve youngsters’ physical health and mental health, as well as giving people the chance to meet new friends and have fun. I hope these children continue to play football into their adulthood and enjoy playing as much as I do.”
