Ben Davies wasn’t thinking about positives as he trudged out of the Etihad on Saturday. There were plenty after we pushed City all the way in a huge Premier League clash but the overwhelming feeling for the defender was one of disappointment – and the need to look ahead.
Phil Foden’s early goal proved decisive for City. We created plenty of chances only for goalkeeper Ederson to deny us on four occasions.
The performance against the title favourites was certainly a positive. Another was young defender Juan Foyth’s display at right-back up against in-form Raheem Sterling. Mauricio Pochettino felt we deserved ‘at least a draw’ but it wasn’t to be.
It’s never easy to reflect but look, it’s about kicking on and trying to win every game between now and the end of the season
“It’s always hard to see any positives straight after a defeat,” said Ben, who agreed Juan ‘had a great game’. “It was tough, they had a lot of the ball and we knew we had to try and take our chances if they came.
“We certainly created the chances but unfortunately we didn’t take them this time. That’s the difference between this game and Wednesday night, we were a bit more clinical.
“So it’s never easy to reflect but look, it’s about kicking on and trying to win every game between now and the end of the season. That’s the target and it starts against Brighton on Tuesday.
“It will be tough, they are fighting for everything and they will go the full 90 minutes to try to get something out of the game. We have to be ready. We’ve played well at the new stadium so far and we need to keep that momentum going for the rest of the season.”
