Trippier welcomes local children back to school

Thu 13 September 2018, 17:11|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran Trippier today (Thursday) surprised pupils at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School in Tottenham by joining in with one of their Premier League Primary Stars PE lessons and encouraging them to get active on their return from the summer holidays.

England right-back ‘Trips’ helped staff from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation deliver a PE lesson for a Year 1 class before donating a Premier League Primary Stars equipment pack to the school filled with footballs, numbered and lettered floor spots and giant dice. The pack is designed for teachers at the primary school to use in lessons across the curriculum to help inspire children to learn and be active.

The back to school visit coincides with the opening of the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme application window, which enables primary school teachers across England and Wales to apply for a free Nike football strip or a free equipment pack like the one donated by Kieran today.

Since August, 2016, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has inspired over 3,500 children in schools across North London and Hertfordshire to learn through the Premier League Primary Stars programme, working with over 130 teachers.

Kieran said: “When I was at school, PE was one of my favourite subjects, so joining in with today’s session has brought back some great memories. It’s so important for children to keep active and take part in regular PE lessons, so it’s great to see the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Premier League giving back to the local community to make it easier for local children to access sport.”

Stephen McNicholas, Head Teacher at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School, said: “The children loved hearing about Kieran’s life as a professional footballer, and it’s inspired so many of them to work hard at school and be active. I would like to thank the Premier League for donating the equipment kit to us – it’s a fantastic resource that will help us keep our PE lessons interesting and different week in week out.”
