Mauricio Pochettino said the players’ attitude was spot on as we withstood an aerial barrage to beat Huddersfield 2-0 on Saturday.
We were tested defensively with long throws coming into the box from all angles but stood firm to keep a clean sheet.
Indeed, the home side’s best moments came from distance with Paulo Gazzaniga saving well from Chris Lowe and Isaac Mbenza and Laurent Depoitre cracking the crossbar.
Harry Kane struck twice in seven minutes midway through the first half as we took control by half-time – just as we did in last season’s 4-0 win, when we led 3-0 at the break.
I’m so happy, so pleased with the attitude and how we fought and approached the game
Harry’s first goal took him to 144 goals and ahead of Jermain Defoe into fifth place in our all-time goalscoring list.
There were further chances for us on the break but we stayed in control without adding to the scoreline.
“The Premier League is always tough and today we played against a very aggressive team, so physical and yes, I’m so happy, so pleased with the attitude and how we fought and approached the game,” said Mauricio.
“The team read the game very well and that was so important.
“We created a lot of chances and 2-0 is a little short of the result but to add three points more on the table is so important for us.”
Harry now fifth on all-time list
Our all-time top five goalscorers:
1 - Jimmy Greaves - 1961-70 - 266 goals in 379 appearances
2 - Bobby Smith - 1955-64 - 208/317
3 - Martin Chivers - 1968-76 - 174/367
4 - Cliff Jones - 1958-68 - 159/378
5 - HARRY KANE - 2011- 145/221
As for Harry’s latest milestone, Mauricio added: “He was fantastic, I think he was Man of the Match, sharing with the goalkeeper again, Paulo. All the team deserve praise, I’m very happy with the performance.”
Mauricio will now prepare the team for the huge game against Barcelona in the Champions League at Wembley on Wednesday night.
It’s a special game for the manager who spent 12 years as player and manager of Barca’s city rivals Espanyol.
He added: “You know my feeling, my emotions, my heart – of course it will be special.”
