Eric Dier knows we’ll have to be at our best to topple PSV in a crucial UEFA Champions League encounter in Eindhoven on Wednesday evening (5.55pm UK).
Both teams go into the clash with a record of two defeats from games against Barcelona and Inter in Group B. These back-to-back matches – the return on 6 November – will go a long way in determining our destiny in the competition.
PSV top the Dutch Eredivisie with a perfect nine wins in nine so far this season. That includes a 3-0 win against Ajax and they’ve scored 36 goals and conceded just three.
In the Champions League, they were beaten 4-0 in the Nou Camp before Inter turned around a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 at the Philips Stadion in Matchday Two.
“We know PSV are a very good side, very competitive in Holland and have been very good again this season,” said Eric, who is set to play his 30th European game for the Club.
“We know it will be a very difficult game against a very difficult side with very good players. It’s like every game these days - Premier League, Champions League - every game is tough and we’ll have to give our best. Tomorrow is the same.”
Asked in his pre-match press conference if we could take confidence from our away form - four wins out of five in the Premier League, the latest at West Ham on Saturday - Eric responded: “Yes, we’ve done well away from home so far this season.
“We’ve had some tough away games. Last weekend at West Ham was another and we managed to get another win.
“We feel very good at the moment. We have to try to continue that feeling tomorrow. It’s a game we’re looking forward to. We always try to win every game and tomorrow will be no different.”
