Lads pass Molineux test

We held off a late revival from Wolves to take another three points on our travels at Molineux on Saturday evening.

Everything looked rosy when Harry Kane fired us into a 3-0 lead after 62 minutes. Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura had earlier struck twice in three minutes in the first half to put us in charge.

Wolves ripped up the script in the final 20 minutes.

Juan Foyth was judged to have fouled Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves slotted home from the penalty spot for 3-1 on 68 minutes.

Ten minutes later and it was 3-2 as Foyth this time tussled with Jonny Otto and referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot again - this time Jimenez converted.

Wolves poured forward in search of the equaliser but thankfully there were no further clear-cut chances and we held on for victory.

Mauricio Pochettino made two changes to the team that started against City last time out in the Premier League on Monday. Foyth came in for his Premier League debut and Harry Winks replaced Eric Dier.

Winks lined-up with Moussa Sissoko and Mousa Dembele in midfield but our pre-match plans were ripped up inside a minute when Dembele damaged his ankle in a challenge with Helder Costa. He limped off and was replaced by Heung-Min Son as we reorganised in a 4-2-3-1 with Sissoko and Winks holding, Lucas and Son wide.

Honours were even before we hit Wolves with a quick one-two. Lamela opened the scoring on 27 minutes when he combined with Son, controlled the return pass on his chest, drove into the box and slotted low past Rui Patricio.

Three minutes later and we were in control as Son went wide to Kieran Trippier and the full-back's delicious first-time cross was headed home by Lucas, 2-0 at the break.

We expected a reaction from the home side and Hugo Lloris was forced to make three saves in as many minutes to deny Jimenez, Costa and his best down to his right to turn away Neves' fierce drive.

We made it 3-0 on 62 minutes when Lamela's sheer persistence paid off, wriggling his way to the right byline before finding Kane who saw his first effort saved by Patricio but buried the rebound for 3-0.

That should have been that but we allowed Wolves back into it by losing possession twice - and both led to penalties conceded by the unlucky Foyth. Neves converted the first, Jimenez the second, 3-2, 79 minutes on the clock.

Nuno Espirito Santo sent on Adama Traore for some late pace but apart from a couple of crosses dealt with by Lloris, Wolves couldn't find one more decisive, clear-cut chance. The win made it eight in 11 and moved us back into the top four.

Key moment

This could be a tie between any one of Hugo Lloris' three saves in as many minutes when we led 2-0 at the start of the second half - the pick, a low save down to his right to deny Ruben Neves - and Harry Kane's goal to make it 3-0 in the second half. If Wolves had made it 2-1 early in the second half, it might have been a different game, but Harry's goal edges it because - as Wolves proved - we needed that third goal to get over the line.

Mauricio's view

Mauricio Pochettino said: "It was difficult from the beginning with the injury to Mousa, that was tough. We put on Sonny, tried to go forward and win the game. In the second half, with a lot of offensive players, you can concede.

"Hugo was fantastic and at 3-0 I thought the game was over but we made some mistakes and we put Wolves in a situation where they believed it was possible to turn the result.

"We suffered a little at the end but I think the most important thing is the three points and I’m happy because we are in a good position in the table."
