Mauricio Pochettino knows we’re in ‘must-win’ territory as we face PSV in the UEFA Champions League this evening (8pm).
We’re sitting third in Group B level with PSV on one point after three matches with a feeling of 'what might have been' after late goals against Inter and in Eindhoven last time out.
There are twists and turns to come, no doubt, but Mauricio knows step one is to beat the Eredivisie leaders at Wembley.
If we want to be in the next stage of the Champions League, first of all, we must win
“If we want to be in the next stage of the Champions League, first of all, we must win,” he said. “We need the three points.
“It will be a tough game because the Champions League is always tough.
“After two important victories away from home, we are going to be ready to compete again. The squad is conscious about that and we are going to be ready to do our jobs.
“I’m happy with the performance and the commitment of the team from the beginning of the season. I’ve no doubt we are going to compete and perform as we expect.”
PSV have maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the Dutch Eredivisie - now 13 wins in 13 - since our meeting on 24 October.
On that night, we looked set for victory at 2-1 up but Hugo Lloris was sent off and PSV levelled late to take a share of the spoils.
“It was a tough game at PSV,” added Mauricio. “We deserved more. We played better and deserved to win. Again, they will be fresh. They have rested players. We’ve competed in three tough, tough games in six days, now we play the fourth but we are confident we can beat them.”
